Former Survivor star Richard Hatch will remain behind bars for a further nine days, according to Access Hollywood.

The 48-year-old, who won the first season of the CBS show, was sentenced to 51 months in jail after allegedly failing to pay the taxes on his $1m prize.

He had been serving the remainder of his sentence in home confinement when he was sent back to prison last month for giving reportedly authorised media interviews.

Hatch had been scheduled for release today.

His attorney said: "Rich was ordered to an additional nine days as punishment for allegedly not having obtained the requisite permissions to conduct the Access Hollywood and NBC Channel 10 Providence on-camera interviews. Or for calling in to a radio show the following day.

"We still have proceedings pending that could change this but as things currently stand, we expect Rich's release next Friday, October 16."

Hatch previously claimed that CBS had promised to pay the tax on his prize money.
