The 37-year-old - who appeared alongside Pavelka on Jillian Harris's season of The Bachelorette - told Radar Online that he "got on well" with Pavelka.
"I am very sad. I got on well with him. I liked him a lot," he said.
"He's been M.I.A. since he went from one show to the next, but I saw him recently as I went to a taping of Dancing With The Stars after he had been kicked off, and we chatted."
Pavelka - who proposed to Girardi on the season finale of the ABC romance reality show - recently said that he was "saddened" about the split, but insisted that the couple will remain friends.
Barbieri will appear in the all-star Bachelor Pad, which premieres August 9 on ABC.
