Jason Statham has recalled meeting Jersey Shore star Mike 'The Situation' Sorrentino on a plane.

The actor told NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno that he had been boarding a flight when he noticed somebody was sitting in his allocated seat.

"This guy has a hood tied really tight, he has the dark glasses, and he's sitting back. I was thinking, 'Who is this guy?!'" he said on Tuesday's show.

"I said, 'Excuse me, you're in my seat'. He doesn't do anything. Doesn't move. Nothing. He's either dead or listening to his stereo or something, or just downright rude!" he laughed.

"My manager was with me, and he looked to the stewardess and said, 'Can you do something?' She goes, 'Uh, uh! I ain't doing anything! There'll be a situation!'. I went, 'What do you meant there will be a situation?!'."

He continued: "This kid starts to undo his hood and pull it off, and I'm thinking, 'Hang on a minute, I know this geezer! Who is he?' Then he pulls off the sunglasses and it's The Situation himself! I said, 'I can't believe it! You nearly were in a situation right there!'."

Leno then asked if he had "kicked his ass out of the seat", to which Statham laughed: "No, he was really lovely. Really lovely"

Statham was on the show to promote his new movie The Mechanic, a remake of the 1970s film by Michael Winner, which revolves around a hitman who takes on an apprentice. It opens on January 28.
