Sutherland to leave jail on Monday

Kiefer Sutherland will be released from prison on Monday, reports claim.

The 24 star is serving a 48-day term for driving under the influence of alcohol while on probation from a 2004 offence.

He started the sentence last month following his arrest in September, and spent both Christmas and New Year behind bars.

Prison officer John Balian told People magazine that the actor had been a model inmate, saying: "Throughout his stay, he never griped, never complained. He never wanted preferential treatment from the get go, and we respect him for that."

He added that Sutherland had only allowed visits from his lawyer and doctor during his stay, but that he had received regular fan mail.

The 41-year-old has been folding laundry and undertaking cleaning work while at the prison.
