Carrie Underwood and Diana DeGarmo have offered their condolences to the family of the Paula Abdul fan found dead outside the singer's home.

Paula Goodspeed's body was discovered in a car outside the Sherman Oaks property on Tuesday, in what police are treating as suicide. Goodspeed, 30, had tried out for American Idol but failed to get past the initial stages in 2006.

The show's stars Underwood and DeGarmo told Entertainment Tonight that their thoughts were with Goodspeed's family and friends.

DeGarmo said: "I think that's just a terrible, terrible tragedy and I feel for the person that was out in front of her home, for her family, and especially for Paula, because she's a lovely person and I can only imagine what she's going through."

Abdul earlier said through her representative that she is "shocked and saddened" by the death.
