The couple met while working on the Broadway revival of Grease last year. Young took the role of Kenickie in the production last September.
Young, who finished seventh in season five of Idol, confirmed to Us magazine: "I found my true love in Grease."
The 28-year-old was voted one of People magazine's Hottest Bachelors in June 2006. His career post-Idol includes cameos on Fox's Bones, an appearance on wrestling show TNA Impact and a guest spot on VH1's Rock Of Love: Charm School.
