The 24-year-old from Mount Prospect, IL - who triumphed over Crystal Bowersox this week - told reporters after his exit that he liked working with last season's runner-up Lambert, who recently served as a guest mentor.
"He's a really genuine guy, he's original, I like him and he has a good attitude and he's real. He says it how it is," he explained.
The former paint store worker went on to describe David Cook as "one of the nicest guys" he has ever met, saying that it is a "trend among the Idols that they are all very genuine people and they all know where it is like to be on the other side of it where I was".
"I look to them for inspiration. They have been able to make their marks on music the same way I made mine," he said. "Talking to them was very helpful because it gave a sense of direction and how it will go from here and to see that they have been successful is really awesome.
"I look forward to working with these guys, talking to them and hopefully forming some cool relationships."
Other past stars that DeWyze praised included Carrie Underwood, Kris Allen and Chris Daughtry.
