The singer was disqualified from this year's competition after it emerged that he had lied about his criminal background.
Jones purchased tickets to the American Idol live tour on Tuesday (August 21) at Philadelphia's Wells Fargo Center. His friend and third placed-singer Josh Ledet gave him backstage passes.
He was then able to reunite with his fellow season 11 contestants Jessica Sanchez, Colton Dixon, Skylar Laine, Erika Van Pelt, Phillip Phillips and DeAndre Brackensick for the first time since leaving the show.
On the emotional reunion, Jones told TMZ that everyone was "showing a lot of love".
He added: "I think I told them at the time what I needed to for my information to qualify, but overall I just wish of course that I did things differently.
"American Idol helped me in my career and gave me good exposure... I'm happy and grateful for the experience."
Mariah Carey has signed up to join the judging panel of the long-running Fox reality series, while Nicki Minaj, Alanis Morissette and Kanye West have also been linked.
