The Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver was stopped by police in DeKalb County, Georgia, and later taken into custody when officers determined that he was inebriated, TMZ reports.
Ward, who attended college at the University of Georgia, was apparently recently released from police headquarters after posting a $1000 bond.
The athlete hasn't offered any comment on the matter.
Ward and his professional partner Kym Johnson triumphed in Dancing with the Stars' 12th season finale, winning out over Chelsea Kane and Kirstie Alley.
He later professed that becoming Dancing with the Stars champion was just as meaningful as being named MVP of Super Bowl XL.
