An LA Superior Court ruled on Friday that Artest will now legally be known as Metta World Peace, reports E! News.
The NBA star explained that he is very happy that the change was approved after several months of legal wrangling.
Metta World Peace said: "Changing my name was meant to inspire and bring youth together all around the world... I'm glad that it is now official."
His rep also suggested that the athlete will likely use both names when he pairs with professional Peta Murgatoyd on Dancing with the Stars later tonight.
Dancing with the Stars premieres tonight at 8/7c on ABC.
