4005: The newlyweds make a life-changing decision

Jesse’s asleep in the van - dreaming about Chloe. Insert flashback from the last time he saw her at Alf’s party – when she rejected him…he downs a drink… Sally knocks on the door wanting to see how he is - would he like to help her with Chloe’s funeral arrangements –it might help him work through his grief? Jesse and Sally are making funeral arrangements and reminiscing fondly about Chloe. Jesse still can’t get his head around the hit and run. His anger starts to resurface and Sally wants Jesse to understand they might never find the person who did this… although it’s not easy, they have to find some peace with what happened. Sally tells Jesse she knows Chloe valued his friendship a lot – especially how protective he was with her over Troy. Jesse can’t believe how much has happened to him over the last six months… more than ever, he needs a fresh start. As soon as the funeral’s over, it’s time to leave town…

Kim’s being discharged from the hospital and Hayley’s helps him pack. They begin to discuss baby names, both throwing names out and having fun. At the house, Hayley notices a big box sitting at the door; Kim recognises it immediately. It was supposed to be a surprise – a cot! Kim thinks he won’t be able to assemble it with his leg out of action- but Hayley declares she’ll do it herself – even though the instructions are in Japanese! Hayley’s starts the get the cot together (the baby name banter continues) but Kim’s going scratch crazy! Hayley suggests he has a shower, helps him up to the bathroom and awkwardly asks if he needs a hand…with his clothes... Kim smiles – he’ll be right.

Leah pulls a pregnancy test from her bag… Later, Dan’s trying to find something he’s misplaced and grabs Leah’s handbag. Leah snatches her bag away from him and Dan calls her on it. She pulls the test from her bag. Dan’s stunned! Leah emerges from the bathroom and places the pregnancy test on the table. Although they’d love to have kids one day, they haven’t discussed it and now’s too soon for both of them.

Leah nervously checks the test and … she’s not pregnant! Both of them go quiet. Despite everything, they’re disappointed. Is a baby something they want now? Dan nods – I think so… Leah smiles – me too… Dan playfully leads her towards the couch - Then what’re we waiting for….

Hayley continues with the cot, but inside the bathroom, Kim is struggling to get dressed again. Hayley looks to her watch and calls out, asking if he’s okay? Kim, embarrassed, finally speaks up – actually he needs her help … Amused, she goes in and gives him a hand. When they come out, Hayley points to the cot - she did a really good job. Their eyes meet and the tension between them is undeniable. Kim breaks the moment with a baby name they both finally agree on.

Jesse lays flowers at the accident site for Chloe. He looks at the tyre marks…and begins to remember; Insert short, sharp flashes of headlights and screeching of tyres. Jesse becomes scared… He moves over to his car and notices a scratch. His mind flashes back again, and Jesse sits behind the wheel of his car, polishing off a bottle of rum, as headlights speed towards him. He panics and hits the accelerator by mistake…as the other car (Chloe’s) veers off the road. Back in the present, Jesse’s stunned - Oh my god, what has he done?!
