The Bill star Andrew Lancel has been deeply moved by the public's response to the police drama's missing child storyline.

The 36-year-old actor has been swamped by compassionate letters and emails as his character DI Neil Manson searches for the truth about missing youngster Amy Tennant.

He told The Sun: “A lot of people, including families of missing kids, have been in touch. From their reactions, they have been very moved by the plot.

“It’s a storyline which began 13 months ago and it seems to have had a huge impact and I think it has given hope to families in similar situations.

“For me it’s been emotional to work on as it’s hard not to get involved. Missing loved ones is a major problem in today’s society.”

The dramatic storyline will reach its climax in episodes to be broadcast on ITV1 tonight and tomorrow.
