
The actor joined the BBC One medical drama as Dan Clifford in August 2006 and his contract ran for one year.
He has now promised that he would make a comeback if producers approached him with a decent script.
"The story would have to be good, but I don't have any doubts that there is much more to explore and more fun to be had with Dan," Wingfield told fansite holby.tv.
Peter also praised Holby producers for their careful and realistic approach to the show's operation scenes.
"The prosthetics department is absolutely world-class, the best I have worked with anywhere in the world," he explained, "and it is the realism of the operations that makes Holby a stand-out as a medical show."
