PCs Emma Keane and Sally Armstrong are out on patrol when two explosions are heard and the officers watch horrified as a thick black smoke spreads across the sky. With multiple casualties to deal with, Sergeant Stone takes charge of aftermath along with officers from Sun Hill and Barton Street police stations. Sally, Emma and PC Will Fletcher deal with the rising hysteria with Inspector Gina Gold and Superintendent John Heaton back at the station - the footage on the news stuns them all.
Working hard and fast the police officers deal with continual challenges and dramas that unfold. Terrified people desperate for information, wives terrified when they can’t get hold of their husbands, exploitative thieves riding off the back of a London suddenly gripped by panic.
The day is made even more unbearable when Emma and Stone realise a man has been pretending to be a doctor in order to molest injured women. Stone reaches boiling point and a chase ensues and on catching the guy it becomes rapidly clear to Emma that Stone is not planning an arrest.
As Stone goes to grab the man by the throat, Emma yells at him to stop - this wasn’t the kind of policing she wanted in on. Rejecting his ways, Emma leaves Stone to vent his anger on the guy.
As Emma makes her way back to the station, she notices fire coming through a window of a building. She calls through to the station and speaks to Jack who tells her that they have been informed of another bomb which is due to go off and back up is on the way. With Stone nowhere to be seen, Emma rushes in determined to save as many lives as she can.
Minutes later, a sense of dread and guilt take hold as Stone arrives and desperately searches the crowd for Emma. Stone sprints towards the building but it is too late; he is forced to stop as the entire front of the building comes crashing down. Desperate to save Emma’s life, Stone finally enters the crumbling building and frantically attempts CPR as a tearful Sally holds Emma’s hand.
