BBC America drops 'EastEnders'

BBC One soap EastEnders has been axed from the BBC America schedule.

Viewers have been advised that Saturday's omnibus edition, which airs from 1pm through 3:30pm ET, was the last time the programme will be shown on the channel.

BBC America, which is available on satellite and digital cable systems in the United States, said it took the decision because "Nielsen ratings show that EastEnders continues to underperform" compared to the other programmes on the channel's schedule.

The channel's Vice President of Programming will be hosting a webchat on Monday, September 29th at 1pm ET, 10am PT to answer questions related to the decision. The chat can be accessed from this page.

BBC America warned last year that unless ratings improved for the soap, it would face the chop.
