Corrie stars top gay heartthrobs poll

Stars of Coronation Street have been voted Britain's biggest soap heartthrobs in a new poll by a gay website.

Rob James Collier, who plays Liam Connor in the ITV1 soap, was named the male soap star most gay men would like to date.

Co-star Alison King (Carla Connor) was the favourite among lesbian voters in the survey by gay-PARSHIP.co.uk.

Hollyoaks's James Sutton (John Paul McQueen) and Roxanne McKee (Louise Summers) finished second in the male and female lists respectively, followed by Corrie's Samia Smith (Maria Sutherland) and EastEnders' Rob Kazinsky (Sean Slater).

Website spokesman Adrian Gillan said: "Lesbians and gays nationwide are doubtless all hoping Corrie's Carla and Liam are granted same-sex storylines.

"From Albert Square to Weatherfield, credible gay and lesbian characters may be scarce on our small screens, but this poll proves there's clearly still no shortage of gay love-interest in many of our Great British soaps."
