John Altman, the actor who played 'Nasty' Nick Cotton in EastEnders, has suffered a nervous breakdown, The Sun reports today.
The 51-year-old collapsed whilst rehearsing for stage play Dead Of Night on Monday.
“We are in contact with John and supporting him all the way," said a spokesman for the play. “We wish him a speedy recovery.???
Friends of the star told the newspaper that his hectic schedule together with "increasing pressure in his personal life" was the reason for Altman's collapse.
“John has always been someone who lived to the full and burned the candle at both ends," said one. “He was really looking forward to this run in a play but it all got too much for him and he just couldn’t carry on any longer. He is now under strict medical supervision at his home and may have to go into a clinic.???
Altman left the show in 2001 after a feud with Mark Fowler led to the death of Nick's son Ashley.
