Five Corrie stars axed by new producer
New Coronation Street producer Tony Wood has decided to axe five characters from the soap, according to The Sun today.

The move has led to comparisons between Wood and former Corrie producer Brian Park, who axed a record nine members of the cast in the 90s.

Among those set to go this year are Nick Tisley (played by Adam Rickitt), Bev Unwin (Susie Blake) and Harry Flagg (Iain Rogerson). Tommy Harris and wife Angela (Thomas Craig and Katherine Hunt) are also being given the boot.

A spokeswoman confirmed that the five would be leaving the street over the coming months. “The departures will be spread out over the rest of this year," said the spokeswoman. "The nature of a show like this is that characters come and go. There have always been those who have passed through Weatherfield.???

Coinciding with the announcement was the news that two former cast members are to return full-time.

Bev Callard, who plays Liz McDonald, and Jane Danson, aka Janice Battersby's daughter Leanne, will both be back before the summer. Callard was a big hit with fans of the show when she made a brief comeback last November. Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
