The statement was apparently issued in response to comments made by Paul Ross on ITV1's This Morning programme on Monday regarding a possible appearance of Joanna Lumley as Den's wife. A spokesperson for EastEnders said:
"Lumley will definitely not be joining EastEnders as Den's wife or any other character."
