High-profile Corrie character 'to die'

A high-profile Coronation Street character is to be killed off this summer - but producers are keeping tight-lipped over who'll meet their maker.

Roy Hudd will be reprising his role as funeral director Archie Shuttleworth for the storyline, which begins filming at the end of May.

"There's no other reason for Archie to be called back," a source told the Daily Star today. "Roy is only returning briefly. He's made it very plain he doesn't want a full-time contract, even though producers would like him to sign one."

Candidates for the death include Nick Tilsley (Adam Rickitt) and Harry Flagg (Iain Rogerson), both of whom were axed earlier this year.
