Top Corrie star quits

Coronation Street star Suranne Jones - factory worker Karen McDonald - has decided to quit the soap.

Karen will leave the cobbles in a special Christmas-time storyline but won't be killed off, leaving the door open for her return in the future.

“I just think the time is right for me to move on and explore other acting opportunities," said Jones, 26, yesterday. “This is the best way forward as it gives the writers the chance to write a terrific exit for my character.

“I’m extremely excited about the future but it will be a very sad day when I say goodbye to the fantastic friends I’ve made from the cast and crew.???

“I adore playing Karen McDonald and love working with Simon Gregson [Steve McDonald]. If it wasn’t for the Corrie writers and Simon I wouldn’t be where I am today and for that I’ll always be grateful.???

Her final scenes will be filmed in November.
