Berridge "will stay" at 'EastEnders'
EastEnders executive producer Louise Berridge will keep her job despite increasing calls for her to quit.

The soap's fortunes have taken a tumble of late, with a series of sensationalist storylines and bad press surrounding its cast proving a turn-off for viewers. Last week's Tuesday episode was seen by just 6.4 million viewers; what is believed to be its lowest figure ever recorded.

Speaking to The Stage this week, the BBC's head of continuing drama Mal Young said that he thought Berridge was doing "brilliantly."

"I think Louise is great and she is not going anywhere," said Young. "She is on a two-year deal and I am 100% behind her. I think she coped well with the Leslie Grantham situation and she's doing brilliantly."

Young also denied reports that he has tried to poach Coronation Street exec Carolyn Reynolds as a replacament for Berridge.
