Weatherfield soap Coronation Street triumphed in the early evening soaps battle last night, with its two episodes averaging 8.51m (39.3%) and 7.21m (30.4%) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm, respectively.

The instalments, which saw Tina deciding to leave the Street just days before the trial and Becky flying off the handle at Steve, added 289k (2.4%) and 367k (4.1%) when repeated at 11pm and 11.30pm on ITV2.

BBC One's screening of EastEnders at 8pm, in which Ian revealed his new devil tattoo to the locals, was seen by 7.65m (33.2%), while the BBC Three repeat at 10pm took 597k (3.5%).

Rural drama Emmerdale, meanwhile, attracted 6.49m (32.3%) in its 7pm slot on ITV1.

Calvin's shock confession to wife Carmel in Hollyoaks was seen by 1.3m (6.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4. The soap's first look outing on E4 drew 483k (2.7%) at 7pm.

Neighbours' 5.30pm transmission on Five put in 1.53m (10%) and its 7pm repeat on Fiver averaged 259k (1.4%).

Last night's Home and Away, in which Belle was driven to take Larry's pills, logged 1.01m (5.7%) at 6pm and Fiver's first look 30 minutes later pulled in 726k (4.3%).
