EastEnders was the most watched soap yesterday, with Jean's emotional return to the Square attracting 8.33m (38.1%) at 7.30pm.

The episode's 10pm repeat on BBC Three added 685k (3.8%).

Emmerdale's instalment at 7pm, which saw Brenda confess her love for Terry, logged 6.8m (32.2%).

The daily outing of Doctors, yesterday entitled 'Bad Blood', took 1.71m (24.6%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.

Channel 4's screening of Hollyoaks, meanwhile, delivered 1.7m (8.6%) in its usual 6.30pm slot. The timeshift transmission of the episode added a further 106k (0.5%).

The teen soap's first look episode on E4, which saw Tom and Holly continue to blackmail Mercedes, attracted 610k (3.2%). Its timeshift repeat an hour later on E4+1 added 182k (0.9%).

Last night's Neighbours episode, in which Lou discovered the shocking truth about Harold's condition, put in 1.51m (9.9%) at 5.30pm on Five. Fiver's 7pm repeat added 282k (1.5%).

Home and Away averaged 1.1m (6%) for its 6pm instalment on Five and the first look outing 30 minutes later on Fiver was seen by 598k (3.4%).
