BBC One's 7.30pm episode of EastEnders, which saw Ronnie and Danielle come to blows, drew 6.2m (27.8%) - its lowest ratings since the end of January.
Mark's blast from the past in Emmerdale, meanwhile, attracted 6.16m (28.9%) at 7pm.
During the period when the two shows went head-to-head, Emmerdale's audience dropped to 5.91m (26.51%).
BBC Three's repeat of EastEnders added a further 1.16m (6.7%), making it the most watched multichannel programme of the day.

Hollyoaks logged 1.61m (8.2%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4, while E4's first look instalment half an hour later brought in 636k (3.5%).
Sam's Christmas baby bombshell in Neighbours put in 1.58m (11.1%) at 5.30pm on Five, while Fiver's repeat at 7pm added 236k (1.3%).
Home and Away's screening at 6pm, which saw Tony's secret finally being revealed, interested 1.08m (6.1%), before Fiver's first look had 554k (3.2%).
