Coronation Street and EastEnders posted week-on-week gains last night, with the BBC soap narrowing the gap on its ITV rival.

The first of Corrie's two outings, which saw Tony driven to hiring a private investigator, attracted 9.64m (40.6%) at 7.30pm. Its second instalment an hour later, during which Tony made his move on Natasha, drew 9.83m (39.5%).

Corrie's ITV2 repeats between 11.30pm and 12.30am added a further 164k (2.5%) and 159k (3.5%) respectively.

Patrick's first meeting with Tommy in EastEnders at 8pm, meanwhile, delivered 9.48m (38.6%), the soap's highest ratings since mid February. BBC Three's repeat at 10pm was the most watched multichannel programme of day, logging 701k (4.1%).

Emmerdale's outing at 7pm was watched by 7.34m (33.6%).

The first of a Doctors two-parter, entitled 'Hillgate J-91: Part I' took 1.8m (24.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.

Ravi, Kris and Nancy's surprising bisexual pact during last night's Hollyoaks averaged 1.69m (8.3%) at 6.30pm, then its timeshift repeat added a further 152k (0.7%) on Channel 4+1.

The first look outing on E4 at 7pm took 622k (3.2%) and E4+1's repeat transmission added 112k (0.5%).

The resolve of the teens' rafting accident plot during Neighbours averaged 1.61m (10.6%), while its Fiver repeat added 238k (1.2%) at 7pm.

Home and Away logged 1.13m (6.1%) at 6pm, while the first look screening on Fiver at 6.30pm had 606k (3.4%).
