All About Soap 'Bubble' winners announced

Rita Simons

EastEnders and Hollyoaks have been named the big winners in this year's All About Soap Bubble awards.

The BBC and Channel 4 teen soaps won three trophies each, while Coronation Street landed two.

However, rural soap Emmerdale, along with Aussie serials Neighbours and Home and Away, failed to win anything.

Rita Simons - Walford's Roxy Mitchell - took the 'Fatal Attraction' award for her rocky relationship with Sean Slater (Rob Kazinsky). Speaking of her success, she said: "It's an honour to win. It's the perfect award for them because that's exactly what their relationship turned out to be. You never knew what was going to happen with them - they were dynamite!"

Coronation Street's Gray O'Brien, meanwhile, gladly accepted his 'Bad Boy' trophy, saying: "It's great to win this award. I've been so pleased with people's reactions to Tony - but he's not a villain. He's just a normal guy. I don't think he's particularly nasty, he's just a bit misunderstood."

Elsewhere on the winners' rostrum, Hollyoaks's Jennifer Metcalfe (Mercedes McQueen) was handed the 'Celeb Style' award, while Albert Square's Charlie Brooks was named soap's best 'Bad Girl' for her portrayal of vixen Janine Butcher.

Meanwhile, Max Cunningham's (Matt Littler) dramatic wedding day death in Hollyoaks came top in the 'Tearjerker' vote, while Niall Rafferty's (Barry Sloane) explosive covert revenge on the McQueen clan received the award for 'Killer Secret'.

Finally, Corrie's Samia Smith was handed the 'I'm A Survivor' title for her role as crimper Maria Connor, while East-End screen brothers Jake Wood and Scott Maslen – Max and Jack Branning – lifted the 'Fight Club' gong for their warehouse scrap last year.

Speaking to DS, All About Soap editor Johnathan Huges said: "We had a huge response to this year's Bubble awards. EastEnders did really well with three awards, while Hollyoaks bagged three prizes - their best ever result at the Bubbles!"

He added: "While the Bubbles are more fun than other awards, it still gives you an idea of public opinion - and could hint at the forthcoming British Soap Awards." Get the Inside Soap magazine on your iPhone or iPad
