The episode, which saw Peter confront his father over his affair with Martha, was seen by 8.6m (41.3%) at 7.30pm.
ITV2's midnight repeat added a further 165k (3.3%).
Emmerdale's traditional 7pm offering, during which Pollard rumbled his son David's plans to run against him in the local elections, attracted 6.63m (34.9%).
BBC One's screening of Doctors, entitled 'Standing Up', logged 1.57m (20.2%) at 1.45pm.

E4's first look edition at 7pm took 483k (2.8%), while its repeat an hour later on E4+1 had 110k (0.5%).
Five's screening of Neighbours at 5.30pm, during which Ringo lost his temper and attacked Zeke's memory in front of Karl, interested 1.35m (10.1%), before Fiver's repeat at 7pm added 219k (1.3%).
Home and Away's 6pm episode on Five, which saw Charlie searching for answers following her kiss with Joey, was seen by 1.15m (6.9%).
Fiver's first look was the most watched multichannel programme of the day, averaging 570k (3.5%) at 6.30pm.
