BBC soap EastEnders was the overall victor in the ratings battle against Emmerdale last night, overnight figures show.

Thursday night's edition of the Walford-based drama, which saw Ronnie break down at her daughter Danielle's graveside, brought in 6.23m (28.8%) at 7.30pm.

Meanwhile, ITV's one-hour outing of Emmerdale, during which Mark came face to face with Faye, logged 5.97m (28.9%).

During the 30-minute head-to-head period, however, Emmerdale lost half a million viewers, its audience dipping to 5.4m (25.1%).

EastEnders' 10pm repeat on BBC Three added a further 1.44m (7.8%).

Channel 4's 6.30pm Hollyoaks transmission, which saw Russ and Nancy end their night with a mistaken near kiss, averaged 1.75m (9.2%). E4's first look took 592k (3.4%) at 7pm.

BBC One's daily dose of Doctors, titled 'Much Ado About Something', interested 1.69m (21.5%) at 1.45pm.

Five's screening of Neighbours at 5.30pm had 1.34m (9.4%), before Fiver's repeat added 196k (1.1%) at 7pm.

Last night's instalment of Home and Away, during which Belle confessed to Aden about her drug use, drew 1.04m (6%) in its traditional 6pm slot, while Fiver's first look attracted 590k (3.5%) at 6.30pm.
