Coronation Street was the most-watched soap in the early evening soaps battle last night, early figures show.

The Weatherfield soap's double bill - which saw Paula report Colin to the police, before he suddenly died at the Grimshaws' - delivered 9.17m (42.7%) and 9.11m (38.6%).

ITV2's early morning repeat between 12.30am and 1.30am added 123k (4.1%) and 148k (6.9%).

EastEnders' first instalment of the week, during which Nick and Dotty increased the intensity of their evil plan, grabbed 8.73m (38.9%) at 8pm.

BBC Three's repeat showing was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day, taking 664k (3.9%) at 10pm.

Emmerdale, which featured Cain interfering with Debbie and Andy's ongoing custody case for Sarah, averaged 6.85m (24.8%) at 7pm.

Last night's Hollyoaks, during which Zoe confessed to her brother Archie about plagiarising Mike's film, logged 1.9m (10%) at 6.30pm, while Channel 4+1's repeat added 114k (0.6%).

E4's first look transmission had 473k (2.7%).

BBC One's daily dose of Doctors titled 'Out Of Control', which saw Corrie actress Katherine Kelly's sister Grace Kelly make a guest appearance, put in 1.53m (22.3%) at 1.45pm.

Five's screening of Neighbours at 5.30pm drew 1.45m (10.4%), before Fiver's repeat added 189k (1.1%) at 7pm.

Home and Away's outing at 6pm managed its highest audience since the end of March, attracting 1.31m (7.6%). Fiver's first look took 622k (3.7%) at 6.30pm.
