EastEnders took the lead in the soap ratings yesterday evening, according to overnight figures.

The week's penultimate edition of the Walford soap, which saw a concerned Dr Al pay Dot a visit, delivered 7.73m (40.9%) at 7.30pm. BBC Three's repeat at 10pm added a further 869k (5%).

Meanwhile, Emmerdale's instalment, during which Cain began to unnerve Mark, averaged 5.93m (34.4%) at 7pm.

Channel 4's Hollyoaks outing at 6.30pm managed 1.66m (9.9%), before E4's first look had 477k (3.1%). E4+1's repeat added 269k (1.5%).

Doctors' offering, titled 'Old Friends', which featured Jimmi urging an old school friend to tell the truth, drew 1.47m (22.7%) at 1.45pm.

Steve's obsession with a fish during yesterday's screening of Neighbours was seen by 1.43m (11.4%) at 5.30pm, while Fiver's repeat at 7pm added 226k (1.5%).

Home and Away's 6pm instalment on Five interested 1.1m (7.1%), while Fiver's first look took 514k (3.5%) at 6.30pm.
