EastEnders took a comfortable lead in the ratings yesterday evening, early figures show.

The BBC soap's penultimate episode of the week, which saw Bradley laid up in a hospital bed following the café explosion, averaged 7.71m (41.7%) at 7.30pm. BBC Three's 10pm repeat added a further 647k (3.4%).

David's triumph in the local elections in Emmerdale, meanwhile, was seen by 5.64m (23.9%) at 7pm.

Hollyoaks' instalment, during which Calvin and Carmel vowed to tell their loved ones the truth about their inner demons, drew 1.51m (9.3%) at 6.30pm, while E4's first look took 555k (3.6%).

The second half of Doctors' two-parter, titled 'Red Letter Day', interested 1.49m (24.2%) at 1.45pm on BBC One.

Neighbours' outing on Five logged 1.28m (10.8%) at 5.30pm, while Fiver's 7pm repeat added 186k (1.2%).

Five's screening of Home and Away at 6.30pm, during which Irene succumbed to the temptation of alcohol, interested 922k (6.2%), before Fiver's first look had 417k (2.9%).
