Soaps Ratings Roundup: June 16

BBC soap EastEnders comfortably triumphed in the ratings clash with Emmerdale last night by over a million viewers.

EastEnders' second instalment of the week, which saw Jean struggle with Stacey's return, was seen by 5.95m (30.3%) at 7.30pm.

ITV's 60-minute Emmerdale screening, during which Mark met his son Ryan for the first time, averaged 5.34m (28.6%) in the 7pm hour. However, during the head-to-head period from 7.30pm, Emmerdale's audience dipped to 4.92m (25%).

BBC Three's 10pm repeat of EastEnders was the most-watched multichannel programme of the day, adding a further 1m (5.9%).

Hollyoaks' transmission at 6.30pm on Channel 4, during which Rhys and Hayley shared a kiss, interested 1.44m (8.7%), while Channel 4+1's timeshift repeat added 100k (0.6%). E4's first look edition at 7pm drew 589k (3.7%), before E4+1's showing took 109k (0.6%) an hour later.

Five's Neighbours had 1.25m (10.5%) at 5.30pm. Fiver's repeat at 7pm added a further 207k (1.3%).

Home and Away's daily 6pm episode, which yesterday saw Roman rescue Nicole, managed 933k (6.1%), while Fiver's first look attracted 500k (3.4%).
