Coronation Street was the most-watched soap yesterday evening, averaging 8.7m and 9.3m for its first two episodes of the week.

Last night's double bill, during which Claire woke from her life-saving operation and Helen confronted Maria about her involvement with Tony, was watched by 8.72m (42.6%) and 9.31m (42.1%) at 7.30pm and 8.30pm respectively.

ITV2's repeats between 11.15pm and 12.15am added 185k (2%) and 183k (2.7%).

BBC One's edition of EastEnders, which saw a mystery man wander around Pat's house while Debra and Whitney hid under the stairs, delivered 8.35m (38%). BBC Three's 10pm repeat added a further 621k (2.5%).

Emmerdale's instalment took 6.32m (34.9%) at 7pm.

Channel 4's Hollyoaks offering, in which Lauren overheard Newt profess his love for Theresa, managed 1.59m (9.4%) in its traditional 6.30pm slot, while E4's first look put in 444k (2.7%).

Doctors' screening, titled 'Debut', logged 1.41m (19.5%) at 1.45pm.

Jill Ramsay's death during Five's 5.30pm transmission of Neighbours was seen by 1.31m (11.7%), before 204k (1.2%) watched Fiver's repeat at 7pm.

Five's outing of Home and Away, which featured Xavier making a dangerous discovery, attracted 1.21m (7.9%) at 6pm. Fiver's first look managed 516k (3.4%) at 6.30pm.
