'Coronation Street' actor arrested

Despite earning a salary of £100,000 per annum, Jimmi Harkishin, who plays shopkeeper Dev Alahan in Coronation Street, was arrested yesterday for allegedly attempting to mislead shop staff over the price of an item.

The 45-year-old actor allegedly removed a price tag from a relatively cheap item and decided to attach it to a more expensive jumper before proceeding to the checkout.

Jimmi was apprehended by store security and was held there on suspicion of deception in the Fenwick department store in Brent Cross shopping centre, North London. Police then took him to Colindale police station.

"He has accepted the matter and was cautioned, which means it will not go any further," a police spokesman revealed.
