Emmerdale's midweek episode led yesterday's soap ratings, early figures show.

The rural serial's third outing of the week, during which Faye told Ryan that she intends to stay in the village, drew 5.54m (31.3%) at 7pm.

BBC One's daytime dose of medical drama Doctors, titled 'The People at the Top of the Stairs', averaged 1.62m (22.6%) in its usual 1.45pm timeslot.

Five's edition of Neighbours, during which Karl expressed his concerns about Susan, interested 1.37m (11.5%) at 5.30pm. Fiver's 7pm repeat added a further 192k (1.2%).

Channel 4's 6.30pm screening of Hollyoaks, which saw Gilly witness Steph and Fernando's first kiss, managed 1.16m (7%), before Channel 4+1's timeshift repeat had 110k (0.7%).

E4's first look put in 385k (2.4%) at 7pm, while E4+1's repeat added a further 114k (0.6%).
