Coronation Street narrowly edged EastEnders in the soaps ratings battle last night, early figures show.

The Weatherfield soap's third instalment of the week, which saw Ramsay bid an emotional farewell to his friends and family on the Street, was watched by 7.7m (34.5%) at 8.30pm.

Garry and Dawn's final episode of EastEnders, which saw them sail off into the sunset together, drew 7.65m (39%). BBC Three's 10pm repeat added a further 715k (4%).

Will Wylde's horse incident in Emmerdale was seen by 5.96m (33.1%) at 7pm, before 6.4m (31.1%) returned for second helpings at 8pm.

Doctors' screening at 1.45pm, titled 'Cradle To Grave' put in 1.42m (22.6%) at 1.45pm.

Channel 4's edition of Hollyoaks, during which Theresa decided on a new career path, had 1.32m (8%) at 6.30pm. E4's first look interested 429k (2.6%) 30 minutes later.

Neighbours' audience dipped below the million mark for the first time since July 3, averaging only 593k (6.9%) at the earlier time of 4.25pm due to the live UEFA Europa football coverage. Its repeat at 7pm on Fiver added 320k (1.9%).
