Corrie producers reconsider Maya's return
Coronation Street producers may be forced to put Mad Maya's return to the soap on hold.

Maya, who was involved in one of 2004's most successful storylines, would originally have returned in the spring, as she was put on trial for arson, after burning down shops belonging to Dev Alahan (Jimmi Harkishin).

However, the show's producers are now reconsidering the idea, as Harkishin has been given time off from the soap, following allegations about his private life.

An ITV insider told The Sun, "It would look odd if Maya had a trial and Dev was nowhere to be seen."

Several minor storylines have also been axed, including a plot which would have seen Dev selling Streetcars to Steve McDonald.

The source added, "It was to be a way of getting Steve back on his feet after Karen (Suranne Jones) leaving. But because Dev left almost immediately, we couldn't film the necessary scenes for that to happen. So we've had to scrap it."
