Emmerdale was the most-watched soap yesterday evening, according to early figures.

The rural soap's midweek outing, in which Sally became further frustrated by Ashley and Laurel's relationship, drew 6.9m (32.3%) at its usual time of 7pm.

Doctors' offering at 1.45pm on BBC One, titled 'Worst Critic', put in 1.76m (24.5%).

Neighbours pulled in 1.72m (10.7%) - the Aussie soap's highest ratings of the year - with yesterday's instalment, which saw Lyn sign her divorce papers. Fiver's 7pm repeat added 180k (0.9%).

Calvin and Mercedes' kiss in Hollyoaks, meanwhile, managed 1.42m (6.8%) at 6.30pm on Channel 4, before its timeshift repeat on Channel 4+1 added 166k (0.8%).

E4's first look logged 418k (2.1%), while E4+1's repeat interested a further 102k (0.5%).

Home and Away's showing averaged 1.12m (5.8%) and Fiver's first look had 589k (3%).
