Coronation Street was the most-watched soap yesterday evening, according to overnight figures.

The Weatherfield serial's extra episode of the week, during which John was released from prison, pulled in 8.94m (40.3%) at 7.30pm. ITV2's repeat at 11.45pm added a further 157k (2.7%).

Emmerdale's offering at 7pm drew 6.93m (33.6%).

BBC One's instalment of its daytime medical drama Doctors averaged 1.69m (22.9%) at 1.45pm for its episode titled 'Growing Pains'.

Neighbours' instalment at 5.30pm on Five, which saw Toadie and Elle discover the truth about Sonya and Lucas, interested 1.44m (9.1%), before Fiver's 7pm repeat added 193k (1%).

Channel 4's edition of Hollyoaks', which saw Anita's lies exposed, took 1.41m (6.9%) at 6.30pm, while its timeshift repeat on Channel 4+1 added 107k (0.5%).

E4's first look outing averaged 434k (2.2%), before a further 110k (0.5%) tuned in for its repeat an hour later on E4+1.

Home and Away dipped below the million mark for the first time in three weeks, managing 914k (4.9%) at its usual time of 6pm. Fiver's first look had 437k (2.3%) 30 minutes later.
