Emmerdale was the most-watched soap yesterday, overnight figures show.

The rural serial's midweek episode, which saw Charity inform Carl that she's going alone in her plot to fleece Cain, drew 6.96m (33%) in the half hour from 7pm.

Doctors' latest instalment titled 'End of the Line', in which Ruth found herself questioning her neighbours' suitability for parenthood, pulled in 1.68m (22.4%) in its usual time of 1.45pm on BBC One.

Channel 4's screening of Hollyoaks averaged 1.53m (7.5%) at 6.30pm, before its timeshift repeat on Channel 4+1 added 126k (0.6%).

E4's first look managed 478k (2.3%), while E4+1's repeat took 168k (0.8%).

Five's Australian hour began at 5.30pm with Neighbours, which averaged 1.49m (9.2%), before Home and Away had 1.15m (6%) 30 minutes later.

Fiver's first look at tonight's Home and Away was seen by 555k (2.9%) at 6.30pm. A further 258k (1.3%) tuned in for the 7pm repeat of Neighbours.
