EastEnders edged Coronation Street in the soaps ratings yesterday evening, according to overnight numbers.

The Walford serial's third outing of the week, during which Billie Jackson returned to Walford, drew 9.43m (40.9%) in the 30 minutes from 7.30pm. Its 10pm repeat on BBC Three added 864k (4.4%).

ITV1's episode of Coronation Street, meanwhile, put in 9.35m (37.9%). ITV2's repeat from 12.50am added a further 111k (3.8%).

Emmerdale's double bill - during which the police recovered a body before asking Natasha to identify it - averaged 7.65m (34.7%) and 8.47m (35.8%) at 7pm and 8pm.

BBC One's instalment of Doctors, yesterday titled 'Good For The Soul', logged 1.92m (25%) from 1.45pm.

Five's Australian hour began from 5.30pm with 1.64m (9.8%) tuning in for Neighbours, before 1.22m (6.2%) caught Home and Away.

Fiver's first look at Home and Away took 624k (3%) and Neighbours' 7pm repeat managed 127k (0.6%).

Hollyoaks' screening interested 1.34m (6.3%) at 6.30pm, before its timeshift repeat on Channel 4+1 added 102k (0.4%). E4's first look had 475k (2.1%), while 110k (0.5%) saw the timeshift repeat on E4+1.
