Power surges due to Corrie wedding
Last night's edition of Coronation Street, which saw Ken and Deirdre marry for the second time, caused a power surge nearly double that of a normal episode.

The episode caused power to surge up to 1,200 megawatts, which is enough to boil nearly 500,000 kettles, the National Grid announced.

"It is nearly twice as much as you would normally get at the end of an episode of Coronation Street or EastEnders," National Grid spokesperson Stewart Larque explained.

Producers admitted that they removed two references to the Royal Wedding from the episode.

A spokeswoman revealed, "We did have to remove a couple of sentences from the broadcast, but it was just a matter of doing a tiny bit of editing."
