Corrie's Tracy joins anti-fur campaign

Coronation Street star Kate Ford has gone from bunny boiler to bunny hugger in a new advert.

The actress, who plays superbitch Tracy Barlow in the ITV soap, "agreed instantly" to appear in the campaign for PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals).

She said today: "I play a pretty cold-hearted character in Coronation Street, but I can't think of anything more cruel or cold-hearted than killing animals for their fur."

Previous celebs to have appeared in PETA's anti-fur ads include Sophie Ellis-Bextor, Simon Cowell, Pamela Anderson and Charlize Theron.

"Millions of rabbits are killed every year for their fur and their flesh," A PETA spokeswoman told Digital Spy.

"Animals on fur factory farms spend their entire lives confined to tiny, filthy metal cages with no shelter from weather extremes. To kill rabbits, fur farmers break the animals' necks or smash their skulls before stringing them up by their legs, cutting off their heads and skinning them."
