Melanie Hill is set to join Emmerdale for four weeks in July, in the role of Bob Hope's (Tony Audenshaw) new girlfriend.

After his recent split with Viv (Deena Payne), Bob joins a dating agency and meets Avil, who's resemblance to her predecessor is uncanny. Sparks fly when Viv takes a disliking to her replacement.

Speaking of her new part, the actress said: "I’ve always been a big fan of Emmerdale and I’m really excited to be joining the show."

Series producer Kath Beedles added: "We are thrilled to confirm that Melanie will be playing the character of Avril. It’s a fantastically funny storyline and we are looking forward to welcoming her on-set."

Melanie's most notable role was starring as Aveline in the BBC drama Bread. She has also appeared in the Brit film Brassed Off and in programmes such as Auf Wiedersehen Pet, The Bill, Silent Witness and Playing the Field.
