Coronation Street was the most-watched soap on Wednesday evening, early viewing figures indicate.

During last night's rescheduled factory explosion, 8.05m (34.2%) watched an hour-long special from 8pm, which saw Tony Gordon finally meet his maker.

Lucas's latest flash of rage in EastEnders was seen by 7.9m (38.8%) for its special outing at 7.30pm, while 794k (3.7%) tuned in for the BBC Three repeat at 10pm.

Meanwhile, Emmerdale attracted 6.41m (33.8%) for its latest episode, which centred around Nicola's upcoming court case.

Doctors' usual afternoon slot - titled 'Legacy' - put in a respectable 1.5m (21.5%).

Neighbours interested 1.35m (10.2%), with 184k (1%) later catching a repeat. Home and Away delivered 931k (5.8%), while Fiver's first look had 437k (2.5%).

Elsewhere, Hollyoaks averaged 1.18m (6.7%), pulling in a further 478k (2.5%) for E4's first look.
