Producers want the actor, who joined the soap as Danny Baldwin two years ago, to sign a golden handcuffs deal.
An insider told the Sunday Mirror, "Telly execs know he has become a huge hit and want him to become one of The Street's really big guns."
Debra Stephenson, who plays cafe worker Frankie Baldwin, is also in talks to renew her contract with the show.
"She is in talks about staying on," another source added. "Corrie bosses have made it clear they've got big things in the pipeline for Frankie."
