The actor, who plays Les Battersby, battled for his life with wife Sandra at his side after being struck down by acute pneumonia.
"I was in so much pain I was screaming. I just wanted to die. I couldn't go on and I thought it was the end," Bruce told the News of the World.
"Without the love of Sandra who nursed me day and night I wouldn't be here today. She kept watch over me even in the small hours, sitting me up or turning me over to help me get my breath when I thought I was going to die. The pain got so bad that at one point I told her, ‘I don't care if I go now'. I was praying it would end one way or the other."
Jones has assured fans that he has now recovered from the illness and has returned to work.
"Don't worry. I'm back and Les is back!" he said. "I love Corrie, it is my life."
