Corrie stars angry over axed Christmas bash

Coronation Street stars have clashed with bosses who cancelled their Christmas party.

The show's cast and crew have celebrated the festive season at Manchester Town Hall for over 40 years, but this year ITV executive Simon Shaps cancelled the event.

Refusing to give up on their annual bash, the cast have now decided to hire out Manchester's Obsidian bar on Friday night to celebrate Christmas alone.

A source told The People: "They were not pleased. Their schedules are gruelling and they like to let their hair down at Christmas. It's safe to say the ITV head honchos will not be invited. They won't be welcome. Coronation Street earns them a fortune but they pulled the plug on its annual party.

"The cast saw it as a reward for their efforts. Now the show is on every other night there's even more work. They feel the company has no gratitude."
