The owner of the Brookside set has announced that he is putting the entire close up for sale.

All of the three and four-bedroom houses in Brookside Close, West Derby are being put on the market before Christmas and are expected to go for around £250,000 each.

Since starting 25 years ago, the show became home to controversial storylines such as Beth Jordache's (Anna Friel) groundbreaking lesbian kiss and her father Trevor (Bryan Murray) being buried under their patio.

David Cox, who works for the current owners of the close, said: "People will be getting a piece of history.

"We have been getting a lot of interest, people come from all over the country to see the close and inquire after buying one of the houses. Now they can."

At its peak the soap pulled in audiences of eight million for Channel 4, but ended after 21 years in 2003.

Phil Redmond, who was the mastermind behind Grange Hill and Hollyoaks, created the programme. It also launched the careers of Anna Friel, as well as the Royle Family stars Ricky Tomlinson and Sue Johnston.
